When are Minnesota Property Tax refunds generally available?

Property tax refunds often start showing up at the end of August, but Minnesota state law does not require payments to begin until September 15th.  If your 2014 Form M1PR is filed by August 15, 2015 and if Minnesota has no reason to hold or adjust your refund amount, you should receive it during the last half of September.

NOTE:  Some refunds will not be issued until mid-October or even later.  The latest news about these refunds is available in this article:
"Some Still Waiting For Property Tax and Renter's Credit Refunds."

When should I file Form M1PR?

Homeowners file Form M1PR after the new property tax statements are issued by the counties in late March or April.  If you are a renter, your Minnesota Form M1PR can be filed with your Minnesota tax return.

You must file your 2014 Form M1PR by the time the late-filing grace period ends on August 15, 2016 in order to receive a refund.
