Formatting Text

There are several formatting tools available. Not all formatting tools are available on every screen. Review the following for instructions on how to use the formatting tools.

Note: You can also apply formatting to content tags. See Using Content Tags for information on inserting content tags.

Select the text to edit, and then click one of these buttons to apply the selected attribute.

Select the text to edit, and then click an alignment button to align all of the content to the left, center, right, or fully justified.
Paragraph style

Click into a paragraph, and then select a predefined style for that paragraph from the list.
Font family, Font sizes

Select the text to edit, and then select a font family and font size to apply to the selected text.
Text color

Select the text to edit, and then click the arrow on this button to select a color.
Bullet list, Numbered list

Click one of these buttons to insert a bulleted or numbered list.

Decrease indent, Increase indent

Click into a paragraph, and then click one of these buttons to change the paragraph's indent.
Undo, Redo

Click the Undo button to undo the last action, or click the Redo button to redo the last action.
Insert/edit link, Remove link

To create a hyperlink, select the text to use as a hyperlink and click the Insert/Edit Link button. To remove a hyperlink, select the hyperlink and click the Unlink button. You can complete the following fields on the Insert/Edit link window:

  • URL. Enter the website address you want to link to or, if you are linking to an item on your firm's website, you can click Browse Browse button to locate the file to link to.
  • Text to display. Enter the text to use for the URL. This can be a description of the link or the URL address.
  • Anchors. If you have inserted anchors on your site, you can select an anchor to use as the destination for the link. If you have not created anchors, you will not see this option.
  • Target. Select None if the hyperlink should open in the same window. Select New Window if the hyperlink should open in a new window.

Click OK after making your selections.

Anchor

Anchors allow you to jump to certain points in a page. After inserting an anchor, you can insert a hyperlink to that anchor.

Place your cursor where you would like to insert the anchor, and then click the Anchor button. Enter a name for the anchor, and then click Ok.

Insert/edit image

Place the cursor where you would like to insert an image, and then click this button. In the Insert/Edit image window, you can select the image and set the image properties. You can complete the following fields:

  • Source. Click Browse Browse button to locate or upload the image to insert. If you have not previously uploaded the image, select the Upload tab on the File Manager window and upload the image.
  • Image description. Enter a short description that should display when a viewer hovers the pointer over the image.
  • Dimensions. Enter the image size in pixels. To maintain the image proportions, leave the Constrain proportions check box selected. Clear the check box if you do not want to constrain proportions.

Click Ok after making your selections.

Click to view and edit the HTML code for the text, and then click Ok.

File Manager

Click to view any files you have uploaded on the File Manager tab. You can also select the Upload tab to upload a file of up to 100 MB. The list of file types you can update is listed on the right side of the window.

If you plan to store a large number of files and need to organize them under a new directory, select the New Directory tab.

Insert horizontal rule

Click to insert a horizontal line below the selected paragraph.
Clear formatting

Select any formatted text and click this button to remove any formatting you have added.
Visual aids

Click to display or hide invisible elements in the editor.

Example: A table with transparent borders displays without borders when this button is not selected.

Subscript, Superscript

Select text in the editor and click one of these buttons to change the text to subscript or superscript.
Special character

Click to select a special character to insert.

Table
Table button

Click to insert or modify a table. In the table graphic, select the number of columns and rows to include in the table. ClosedTell me about the other options available for formatting a table.

Note: All measurements are in pixels.

  • Insert table. Select this option, and then highlight the number of columns and rows that you want to include in the table.
  • Table properties. You can change any of the following properties of the table:
    • Width and height. Enter a width and height for the table.
    • Cell spacing. Enter the amount of space between cells.
    • Cell padding. Enter the amount of internal padding in a cell. Padding determines how close text will be to the border of a cell.
    • Border. Enter the width of the border that should surround the table.
    • Caption. Select this box to add a place above the table where you can add a caption.
    • Alignment. Select to align the table to the left, center, or right side of the page.
  • Delete table. Select this option to remove the selected table.
  • Cell. You can select any of the following options:
    • Cell properties. Select to specify the cell width, height, type, and alignment. If you want to extend the changes you are making for the cell to other cells in the table, you can also select the scope of the changes.
    • Merge cell. Click to merge two or more cells into a single cell.
    • Split cell. Click to split a merged cell into multiple cells.
  • Row. Place your cursor in a row, and then click any of the following:
    • Insert row before. Select to create a new blank row before the currently selected row.
    • Insert row after. Select to create a new blank row after the currently selected row.
    • Delete row. Select to permanently remove the currently selected row from the table.
    • Row properties. Select to specify a row type, the alignment, and the height for the currently selected row.
    • Cut row. Select to remove the currently selected row from the table and copies it to the clipboard.
    • Copy row. Select to copy the currently selected row to the clipboard without removing it from the table.
    • Paste row before. Select to paste the row that is saved to the clipboard above the currently selected row.
    • Paste row after. Select to paste the row that is saved to the clipboard after the currently selected row.
  • Column. Place your cursor in the column to be deleted, and then click any of the following:
    • Insert column before. Creates a new blank column before the currently selected column .
    • Insert column after. Creates a new blank column after the currently selected column .
    • Delete column. Permanently removes the currently selected column from the table.

Paste, Paste as text

Click the Paste button to paste text from the Clipboard into the text box. Click the Paste as text button

to toggle the plain text mode on and off. When plain text mode is on, hidden formatting codes are stripped from text before it is pasted into Site Builder. If plain text mode is off, the formatting codes are pasted in with the text.

Note: Hidden formatting codes from Microsoft Word and other word processing applications can result in the text displaying in unexpected ways. We recommend using plain text mode when pasting text from other applications. You can then use the provided formatting tools to change the text's appearance.

Select all Select all button Click to select all the text in the text box. You can then apply formatting to all the selected text at one time.
