Bret is a graduate of Columbia High School and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. After graduating, he worked for 2 years at Cooper & Lybrand's downtown St. Louis office and 7 additional years with another firm in Columbia before founding the firm in October, 1995.

Bret is a life-long Columbia resident where he lives with his wife, Toni, and twin daughters, Kami and Joli.
